19th Annual Hershberger Performance Horse Sale Recap:

Hershberger Performance Horse Sale Company, owned by Jason and Nikki Hershberger, held its 19th Annual Performance Horse Sale on Friday, March 1, at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Arizona. The sale kicked off the AZ Sun Circuit, the biggest AQHA show in the west. 

Sale horses were previewed Thursday afternoon in Ranch Riding competition, with Gunna Chromeya, shown by Taylor Cherry, earning the win!

The futurity heading and heeling preview format allowed horses to be showcased within their respective age groups.

The Junior Heading title was won by Reed Boos on the powerful bay horse Ultimate Game Of Tag. In the Junior Heeling, the standout horse Believen, rode by Dakota Kirchenschlager, claimed the title of Junior Heeling Champion.

In the senior divisions, Smart Peppy Doc, ridden by JD Johnson, won the Senior Heading title.

Bowmans Lil Fox, ridden by Ranger Hill, won the Senior Heeling championship title.

Horses were previewed again Friday morning, with demonstrations in roping, reining, barrels, and cow horse events. The sale began at 1:00 p.m., with Joel White and Blake Thompson calling the bids. Wyatt Hershberger presented the pedigrees, while Zane Yates provided commentary during the previews.

The high-selling horse, South Ram Gradie, was consigned by Kale and Tatum Peterson. The striking gray gelding and an outstanding rope horse sold for $65,000 and is headed to North Dakota.

Other top sellers included:

  • My Stetson 801, consigned by Brad and Barrie Smith, which sold for $62,000.

  • The impressive bay gelding Ultimate Game Of Tag, sired by Hashtags and consigned by Reed Boos, brought $55,000.

  • Smokin Hot Chex, a beautiful buckskin gelding consigned by JD Johnson, sold for $52,000.

Rounding out the top ten consignors were Colton Klassen and Taylor Cherry, Lance and Kaitlyn Knutson, Jared Meyer, Javon Kropf, and Triple T Livestock.

The top ten horses averaged $48,500.

Overall, 82 percent of the horses sold, with an average sale price of $21,500. The Hershbergers extend a sincere thank you to the consignors who brought such a high-quality group of horses to this year’s sale!

This year’s lucky buyer prize winner was Kanden Coronado, who took home a Corriente trophy saddle sponsored by John Holt and Terry Larsen of Southwest Risk Management. The winning ticket was drawn at the end of the sale. Coronado had purchased the beautiful palomino gelding Hydrive Shine.

With outstanding Arizona weather, the climate-controlled indoor arena at WestWorld, excellent shopping, and an impressive lineup of horses to watch and bid on, this year’s performance horse sale was a great success.
