20th Annual Hershberger Performance Horse Sale Recap:

Hershberger Performance Horse Sale Company, owned by Jason and Nikki Hershberger, hosted its 20th Annual Performance Horse Sale on Friday, February 28, at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Arizona. The event kicked off the Arizona Sun Circuit, the largest AQHA show in the western United States.

Sale horses were previewed Thursday afternoon in the Ranch Riding competition which was won by DT Holy Smokes, ridden by Casey McCleskey.

The futurity heading and heeling preview format showcased horses within their respective age divisions.

The Junior Heading and Junior Heeling was won by Reed Boos riding the rank bay horse Reys Time.

The Senior Heading champ was San Batman shown by Tate Kirchenschlager. The Senior Heeling, won by Deacon Boon, the awesome bay horse shown by Jason Warner.

Horses were previewed again Friday morning with demonstrations in roping, reining, and cow horse events.

The sale officially began at 1:00 p.m., with Joel White and Blake Thompson calling bids. Wyatt Hershberger presented the pedigrees, while Ross Wagner provided commentary during the previews.

The high-selling horse, Stoppin N Hollywood, was consigned by Jason Hershberger as agent for Shelley Diede. The outstanding dun gelding, a proven rope horse, sold for $73,000 and will remain in Arizona.

Other top sellers included:

  • Miss Stylish Doc, consigned by Dakota Kirchenschlager for Cooper Smith, which sold for $70,000.

  • Too Smooth To B Ruff, consigned by Estevan Castillo, bringing $65,000.

  • Wimpys Got A Shiner, also offered by Dakota Kirchenschlager, selling for $62,000.

Rounding out the top ten consignors were Colton Klassen, Garrett Hershberger, Jason Warner, SKC Livestock, and Carson Coffelt.

The top ten horses averaged $54,900.

Overall, the sale averaged $25,037 per horse, reflecting the exceptional quality of horses offered this year. Jason and Nikki Hershberger extend a sincere thank you to the consignors who brought such outstanding horses to the sale!

This year’s lucky buyer prize winner was Clay Overson, who took home a Corriente trophy saddle sponsored by John Holt and Terry Larsen of Southwest Risk Management.

With beautiful Arizona weather, WestWorld’s climate-controlled indoor arena, great shopping, and an outstanding lineup of horses, the 20th Annual Hershberger Performance Horse Sale proved to be a tremendous success.
